Two gov’t employees played DOTA while working. The mayor’s reaction is PRICELESS.

Mixing work and play is a bad idea. Two government employees in Mandaue City Hall learned the hard way after they were caught red-handed playing computer games during work hours.

The two were playing the popular multiplayer game,Defense of the Ancients or DOTA, while on duty as officers in the City Planning department

Mandaue Mayor Luigi Quisimbing found out through a tip from a “concerned city hall employee.” He said,  "A concerned city hall employee sent a picture to the Chief of Staff last night. We immediately contacted Human Resources to relieve them of their duties.”

According to the mayor, they were supposed to help the city and its people by working on road improvements and easing traffic conditions, but they chose to play instead of doing their responsibilities. Rightly so, the two unnamed public servants were fired.

The new mayor admitted that he heard problems like this before and this incident would be an example and a lesson for city hall employees under him. He added, "There are some city employees who come in Saturday and Sunday specifically to play online games. We will no longer tolerate this in the City of Mandaue."

He further explained, “I hope they see we mean business in the City of Mandaue."

Following the incident, the office of the mayor ordered the IT Department to set-up firewalls in their system in order to stop employees from downloading or playing computer games in the office.
