Ex-Chief Lacson Trusts New PNP Boss Bato dela Rosa: ‘He’s a doer.’

Senator Panfilo Lacson expressed his full support to the new Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa

Lacson, a former PNP Chief, knew dela Rosa during the latter’s stint in the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF).

“Knowing him, I don’t think he will be intimidated by his upperclassmen,” he said.

Lacson also imparted wisdom to the new chief. He told Dela Rosa to assert his authority as the head of the national police and stop local officials from meddling with PNP municipal and provincial appointments. If dela Rosa allowed this, Lacson warned, he will not gain "full respect" from the police force.

He, however, remained confident about dela Rosa's abilities. He described him as a “doer” and, despite dela Rosa’s feisty persona in front of the media, a “rustic, simple and silent man.”

Being a “super cop” himself, Lacson approves President Duterte’s plan to include the military in the fight against crime, but opposes the idea of including the communist rebel group, National People’s Army (NPA).

He said, “I am not for the use of outside law enforcers to enforce the law.”
