7 Problems that netizens have in relation to Duterte's presidential candidacy!

We all know for a fact that a lot of people are really wishing for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to run for the presidential elections in the year 2016.

However, not everyone seems to be happy with the thought of Mayor Duterte taking charge of the whole country.

A Facebook user named Prinz has posted 7 reasons as to why he doesn't agree for Duterte to run as a President.

7 problems I have with Duterte running for president:

1. How can you take someone seriously who opted to run just because he feels “disappointed” with the current set of candidates? Feel mo God’s gift to the Philippines ang dating mo ganun? That sense of entitlement is dangerous.

2. If propaganda is the name of the game, Duterte could have easily won the best script and story. But presidency is more than keeping the audience at the edge of their seats. It’s about sitting with the rest of those leaders from APEC and ASEAN alike. What will you tell those leaders? That you were able to minimize crime by killing people yourself?

3. If all those dictatorship-implying comments are nothing but propaganda feeding into some Filipinos’ blinded sense of discipline, then that is irresponsible. But going with what is happening in Davao (the unresolved Davao Death Squad included), I doubt this is merely for a show. These are unique threats to real democracy that careless people are so blinded to put on the sidelines.
4. Duterte has never mentioned anything about his platform. You will say the other candidates as well, but for a local politician entering the national arena, we, as voters should be discerning enough to avoid the repeats of Binay (why the hell is he still using Makati as propaganda when he has served VP for five years now?). Let’s avoid falling into trap of politicans becoming famous for their words and start looking for substance. If national setup is not enough, I invite you to look at Indonesia’s Jokowi and to some extent, India’s Modi.

5. Duterte is a self-admitting human rights violator. Period.

6. At this early, I can see Duterte will disappoint and Filipino arrogance will again call on for a new leader since we are always like that: we feel entitled to everything but we refuse to comprehend that we ourselves should work for it and that nothing comes so easy that is not lost easily as well. We demand swift action that we see great failure to a presidency after a 100 days in office. To this end, Duterte will disappoint, not only because he is inexperienced, but he fails to comprehend the high expectations of people around him. He thinks he feels their pulse, but he barely touches the skin.

And 7…
Filipinos ourselves have committed the grave crime of connecting democracy to having choices. No matter how bad they are (just how many nuisance candidates do we have?) Worse, while most of the time we realize the bad choices that we have, we look at the other side and hail this as a vibrant democracy. This, by itself, is shallow thinking that Duterte proliferates.

Real democracy lies on the hands of an educated citizenry. Educated, not elitist. We have been fond of intelligence shaming that we do not see the value of looking behind the candidates like Duterte who resort to change that we do not really understand. Instead, we rely on our gut: we feel that when they say change, it will mean better transportation, it means more money in our pockets, more jobs and better lives. We are nothing short of expectations, but the bad part of it is we look for results IMMEDIATELY. That’s irresponsible. That’s naive. That’s hopeless.

That’s why I am NEVER for Duterte. Instead of promoting hope by advocating education and overall social welfare, he wrongly correlates crimes and social ills to as if people are naturally bad or stealers or killers that they deserve to die. He does not create hope or positive change as his much-awaited candidacy implies. Looking beyond the surface, he feeds into everyone’s hopelessness and become selfish himself.

What do you think of these reasons? Do you agree with his thoughts? Or you'll still stay by Duterte's side?

  3. I translate mo naman sa tagalog o filipino nang lahat ng Pilipino ay maintindihan, kahit voter na hindi naman ganon kagaling sa ingles ay maikonsidera yang opinyon mo. Nasa pilipinas ka sir. If I read his platform or better if he has his platform with him then I will decide if I will vote for him. I am not a PRO or vice versa but rather an observant on what is really happening.

  5. A good president won't do shit in this stupid country, when a government is full of corrupted intentions in their positions, The reason people vote him is that he focuses on results, he is already proven himself to the public of his capabilities and intentions.. Our country doesn't need a 2 Faced asshole... We need a real human being, with real good intentions, he promotes change and discipline ... DISCIPLINE is the number thing our shitty country needs, he is doing the dirty work for us... while people like you talking shit on why he shouldn't be a president...

Our government is full of Rich, Smart & Greedy shits, it's either you pick someone who can just be the usual president that says all the flowery words but won't take actions against with all the Bull shit officials... it won't change shit...

  9. This post from an FB friend sums it up.
I'd like to address some of your more coherent points. The rest of your points don't read well so I'll just leave them be (for now).
    1. It isn't entitlement. It's an overwhelming sense of responsibility. I don't expect many people to feel strongly about this since only a few people would live and kill for an ideology. Mayor Duterte is one of them. And that conviction separates him from all other candidates. I agree that this is a dangerous sentiment. But the same could be said about having a foreigner as a president - one who thinks that she's God's gift to the Philippines (See what I did there?).
    2. Indeed the presidency isn't about keeping the audience at the edge of their seats. It's about producing results. Who among the presidentiables has the best record when it comes to producing results? Duterte. Mayor Duterte wouldn't be a fish out of water among other nations leaders. He has a talent for diplomacy. Why do you think he is well respected among the separatist NPAs and the varying Moro groups? He'll tell world leaders that he minimized crime by making sure that people understand the dire consequences of breaking rules.
4.What the f*ck are you talking about? What do you mean no platform? Have you been asleep the past year or so? Mayor Duterte has been going around the country for a while now to let people know of his advocacies and platfrom. He has been an advocate for Federalism. He is against drugs and criminality. You're just showing right now that you are an incompetent fool who'll write anything just because you dislike Mayor Duterte. Many of our nations problems could be solved if we dissolve our unitarian form of government. There has been a growing sense of discontent against Imperial Manila for some time now. People from the provinces hate how wealth is centralized in Metro Manila. And this centralized wealth has attracted thieves. You know most of them. They're in congress. Because of our unitarian form of government, we have successfully centralized corruption into the cesspool that is Imperial Manila. Let the provinces keep majority of their wealth and you'll see our nation finally enjoy inclusive growth.
Comparing Mayor Duterte to Jokowi and Modi is a joke. This would have been acceptable if you compared PNoy against those two instead. Mayor Duterte has a proven track record of getting things done.
You seriously need to educate yourself because just with this statement you have shown your incompetence.
    5. And the people he had killed weren't? Stop with this human rights violations hypocrisy, please. If you were the one wronged you'd probably want justice and vengeance served as well. In a world where our penal system isn't abused and laughed at by criminals I'd agree with you. Sadly our reality is different.
    6. Yes Filipinos are impatient. That's because we've had shit for a long time. We want a breath of fresh air. Again you display your ignorance and stupidity in this statement. Duterte is inexperienced? Are you mistaking him for Grace Poe? Duterte doesn't understand the plight of the people? Oh please. Tell that to the people in Davao. Tell that to the people he helped in Tacloban. Tell that to the people he has convinced not because of his words but because of his actions.
Anyway, let me just tell you that you are entitled to your own opinion, however stupid or wrong it is.
